CLAYOQUOT WILDERNESS LODGE

Brand: baillie-lodges
Star Rating: five-star
location: vancouver-island

Some 30 minutes by boat from Tofino, or 20 miles as the eagle flies, rests a premier eco-safari destination called Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. The resort is open annually from mid May to the end of September only and offers all inclusive adventures of 3, 4 or 7 nights.

Inspired by the late 19th century Great Camps, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort promises the perfect pairing of soft adventure and soft beds – a delicious blend of childhood wishes and grown-up dreams.

Situated at the mouth of the Bedwell River, where it spills into a nine-mile-long fjord, an enclave of 20 great white canvas tents, massage and treatment tents, dining tents, lounge tents and a massive timber cookhouse peek out shyly from the dense bush. Clayoquot Wilderness Resort offers a discreet paradox of individual pampering and remote, untamed wilderness.

While it is hard to imagine a more intimate destination than the intensely romantic Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, the resort has become a recurring favourite for families.

Resort accommodations, food and beverage programmes, activities and adventures and conservancy programmes offer something for all ages and inclinations. Couples, grandparents, school-age children, teens – regardless of experience – find their ideal programme of custom-designed fun and adventure at the resort.

The months of May and September are perfect for couples, while the summer months might better suit high-energy family gatherings.

Dining

Clayoquot Wilderness Resort’s opening and long time Chef, Timothy May set about creating a unique identity for the Resort’s cuisine. As the Resort started out on a floating barge, with a kitchen the size of a pantry station, he knew he needed a unique vision to help it grow.

Tim May and the current Executive Chef, Ryan Orr say the standards set by Vancouver Island farmers can easily compare to the best produce Europe has to offer. Thus, “Modern Natural Cuisine” pays tribute to their skills, and the incredible array of local ingredients at their fingertips.
